The Abraham Camp Creek Ranch was the scene during the 1990s when Lanny Fiel traveled to the northern Texas Panhandle and recorded Ranch Foreman Frankie McWhorter playing the old Texas Ranch Dance style. The recordings are raw and off-the-cuff. At times Frankie had just finished his chores to pick up the fiddle and play. Then for hours would reminisce in his home while Lanny let the tape roll and later transcribed the tunes.

Camp Creek Collection is an opportunity to sit in the kitchen and come to know the old style. Frankie was a virtual ‘Cowboy Encyclopedia’ of how the tunes were once played on the Texas Plains. His knowledge was endless. And his careful renditions capture memories of how the tunes were played over one-hundred-and-fifty (150) years ago.
